What this job is
Collections Officers manage overdue accounts on behalf of banks, credit providers, utilities, government agencies, and debt collection firms. The core work involves contacting debtors by phone or in writing, assessing their financial situation, and agreeing on a realistic repayment plan. Officers also update account records, escalate accounts that cannot be resolved, and make sure their actions stay within the rules set by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and the National Consumer Credit Protection Act. The role is not about pressure tactics. It is about finding a workable path forward for both the creditor and the person who owes money.
