What this job is
Purchasing Officers handle the buying side of an organisation's operations. The core work involves identifying what the business needs, finding suitable suppliers, comparing quotes, negotiating prices and terms, and placing orders. They also track deliveries, manage supplier relationships, and keep procurement records accurate. The role connects closely with finance, warehouse, and operations teams. It is a coordination role as much as a commercial one.
