What this role asks for
Certificate I or compulsory secondary education (ABS skill level 5)
Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate I or compulsory secondary education (ABS skill level 5). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
Your pay is almost entirely commission-based, meaning bad weeks mean no money. You'll face constant rejection, spend hours walking neighbourhoods in all weather, and deal with people who don't want to open their doors. Many customers feel pressured by door-to-door tactics, so you're fighting an uphill battle against distrust. The work is physically demanding and mentally draining, with no income security.
Where the jobs are
Practically, they cluster in growing outer suburbs of major cities where new homes and young families are common. Regional areas also have opportunities, especially for home services and solar panel sales. Remote work doesn't apply to this role. You'll need to live in or commute to your assigned territory.
