Is it steady

Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate IV or Certificate III with at least two years of on-the-job training (ABS skill level 3). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
The work is heavily deadline-driven and detail-obsessed: one missed filing date or typo in a pleading can cost the client thousands and damage the firm's reputation. Court procedures vary between states and court levels, so you're constantly learning new rules. Automation is already eating into routine document prep and research tasks.
Where the jobs are
Government legal roles are spread across state capitals but competitive. Most positions require being on-site at least part-time for court lodgements and file management.
Pay
