Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate I or compulsory secondary education (ABS skill level 5). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

The work is physically repetitive and your pay ceiling is low: you're unlikely to earn much more than when you start. Early shifts are standard (many centres start at 4am), and with Australia Post's future uncertain due to declining letter volumes, job security isn't guaranteed. You'll be doing the same sorting tasks for years.

Where the jobs are

Mail sorting centres are in major cities and regional centres across Australia. Some regional towns have smaller sorting facilities. Remote work isn't possible for this role.
