Requirements

Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

Pay is low and capped. The work is physically demanding year-round, early starts are standard, and you're on call during lambing and calving seasons. Weather, animal illness, and market drops create stress you can't control.

Where the jobs are

Practical reality is work is scattered across farming regions, not in cities. Remote work doesn't apply. Regional towns near larger farming districts offer the best job density.
