Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate II or III (ABS skill level 4). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. The honest hard part
You'll spend years doing repetitive field work in all weather before you're trusted with complex tasks or progress to surveyor. The pay stays modest without further qualifications, and automation of GPS and drone surveying is shrinking demand for manual data collection roles.
Where the jobs are
In practice, jobs concentrate in major cities where construction and development drive demand. Regional centres have work but fewer opportunities. Remote work is minimal: you're needed on site with surveying equipment.
