What this role asks for

Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate I or compulsory secondary education (ABS skill level 5). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
Your back and knees will wear out. You're doing heavy manual loading and unloading in all weather, often on tight schedules. Many offsiders develop chronic pain or injury by their 40s. The pay ceiling is low, you're stuck in a support role unless you get your truck licence, and automation of loading systems is gradually reducing entry-level positions.
Where the jobs are
Regional work exists but is patchy. Construction haulage offers more regional jobs. Practically speaking, you need to be near major distribution centres, ports, or freight corridors. Remote work doesn't apply. Most jobs are with transport companies, logistics providers, and construction firms in and around capital cities.
