Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a diploma, advanced diploma or associate degree (ABS skill level 2). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

The pay is genuinely modest for a management role, and there's no clear ceiling. You're managing staff and running a business. You're also on call for emergencies (sick animals don't wait for business hours) and dealing with upset owners and stressed animals is emotionally draining day after day.

Where the jobs are

Practically speaking, you'll find them in outer metro areas and regional towns with decent populations, not remote areas. Most are small, owner-operated businesses, so remote work isn't relevant.

Pay

A$2,115 a week
