Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate I or compulsory secondary education (ABS skill level 5). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

The pay is low and unlikely to rise much without moving into management. You'll be on your feet for long shifts in all weather, handling difficult drivers, issuing fines that upset people, and managing cash handling responsibilities. Automation of number plate recognition is slowly replacing attendants in some facilities.

Where the jobs are

Most jobs are in city centres, shopping centres, and airports rather than regional areas. Work is almost always on-site at specific facilities, not remote.
