Day-to-day
Assess fruit ripeness and maturity using visual and tactile inspection before harvesting. Pick fruit by hand or with secateurs, pruning knives, or harvesting shears whilst minimising damage to produce. Climb ladders, platforms, or use elevated access equipment to reach fruit across various tree heights. Place harvested fruit into collection bags, crates, or bins according to orchard specifications. Sort harvested fruit by size, quality grade, and condition to meet export or market standards. Empty full collection containers into larger bins or trailers at designated collection points. Follow orchard-specific picking sequences and row patterns to maintain efficient workflow. Comply with workplace health and safety requirements including safe ladder use and manual handling procedures.

Where the jobs are
Work is almost always on-site at farms or orchards. During peak harvest seasons (October to April mainly), workers travel between regions following the picking calendar. Regional areas have far more openings than cities.
