Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a bachelor degree or higher (ABS Skill Level 1). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. The honest hard part

Pay is highly variable and often modest, especially in smaller congregations. Many roles rely on congregation donations or part-time work to supplement income. You'll also face intense emotional labour: counselling people through grief, illness, and crisis is constant. Burnout is real. Work-life boundaries blur when your congregation expects you on call.

Where the jobs are

Most roles are in capital cities and larger regional centres where congregations are bigger and more stable. Rural Australia has fewer opportunities unless you're willing to serve multiple small congregations across a wide area. Remote work isn't common: physical presence in the community is essential.
