Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a bachelor degree or higher (ABS Skill Level 1). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
Pay is genuinely unclear and often modest. Most positions are part-time or fixed-term contracts tied to club budgets, not permanent roles. You'll spend a lot of time chasing volunteer availability, handling complaints from frustrated members, and dealing with last-minute cancellations. Burnout is real in this sector.
Where the jobs are
Regional areas have fewer dedicated roles; smaller country clubs often expect volunteers to do the admin work. Jobs cluster around council leisure centres, private sports facilities, and established amateur sports clubs rather than distributed across regional Australia.
Pay

This is the median for full-time employees who are not managers and are paid at the adult rate, before tax and salary sacrifice. It is a guide to what the work pays, not a wage rate.
