Can employers fill these jobs

Employers hiring for this occupation had trouble finding suitable applicants in regional Australia in 2025, but not in the major cities. Ratings are not the same everywhere. NT and ACT were rated in shortage. This measures how hard employers found it to fill jobs. It is not a count of jobs, and it does not say whether the occupation is growing.

Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a bachelor degree or higher (ABS Skill Level 1). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. The honest hard part

You'll spend years waiting for decisions you recommend to actually happen, and dealing with angry residents who hate your zoning changes.

Where the jobs are

Nearly all positions are in capital cities and large regional centres where councils have dedicated planning teams. Work is entirely office and council-based: no remote work. Practically speaking, if you're not in a major metro area or a growing regional city, there's almost no employment.

Pay

A$2,316 a week
