Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate I or compulsory secondary education (ABS skill level 5). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
The work is heavily seasonal, so you'll face long gaps between harvest periods with no guaranteed income. Your body takes a beating from repetitive bending, lifting, and kneeling in all weather. Pay is modest and won't improve much without moving into farm management. Automation is slowly replacing hand-harvesting.
Where the jobs are
Seasonal work follows crop calendars, not regional demand patterns.
