Can employers fill these jobs

Employers hiring for this occupation had trouble finding suitable applicants in regional Australia in 2025, but not in the major cities. Ratings are not the same everywhere. NT and ACT were rated in shortage. This measures how hard employers found it to fill jobs. It is not a count of jobs, and it does not say whether the occupation is growing.

The honest hard part

The pay ceiling is real and low compared to other skilled trades. You'll also face long, physical days on your feet, weekend and evening work as standard, and the stress of getting orders out during service. Kitchen work is intense and unforgiving: mistakes cost money and damage reputation.

Where the jobs are

Hospitality is heavily metro-based. Some work exists in country towns and mining regions, but options are limited. Remote work doesn't apply to this role.
