Can employers fill these jobs

Employers hiring for this occupation had trouble finding suitable applicants in regional Australia in 2025, but not in the major cities. Ratings are not the same everywhere. NT and ACT were rated in shortage. This measures how hard employers found it to fill jobs. It is not a count of jobs, and it does not say whether the occupation is growing.

Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate IV or Certificate III with at least two years of on-the-job training (ABS skill level 3). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

You'll usually need a pharmacy support qualification, such as the Certificate IV in Hospital or Health Services Pharmacy Support, which you can often study while working. The real grind is the repetitive accuracy work under pressure: one small mistake with dosages or patient IDs can harm someone.

Where the jobs are

Practically speaking, employers in regional Australia found it harder to fill these jobs in 2025, though there are fewer positions overall. Hospital-based roles don't support remote work.
