Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate I or compulsory secondary education (ABS skill level 5). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
Work is irregular and unpaid castings eat your time. You'll go months between bookings, especially starting out, with no income or sick leave. Your earning ceiling is real unless you land major campaigns. The physical demands are relentless: strict weight, skin, and appearance standards mean constant maintenance costs. Ageism and narrow body type requirements mean your earning window can be short.
Where the jobs are
Remote work is not realistic. Most work comes through registered modelling agencies rather than direct employer hirings.
