Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a diploma, advanced diploma or associate degree (ABS skill level 2). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. The honest hard part
The real grind is shift work including nights, weekends and on-call rosters in hospitals that never close. You're also liable for drug errors in a high-stakes environment where one mistake directly affects patient safety, which creates constant pressure. Automation of equipment checks and pre-filled drug systems may reduce some tasks over time.
Where the jobs are
Jobs concentrate heavily in major metro hospitals and their surrounding private day surgery networks. Regional hospitals have fewer theatres and fewer positions. Remote work doesn't exist in this role. Most jobs are in public hospital systems and private hospital groups clustered in capital cities.
