Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate I or compulsory secondary education (ABS skill level 5). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

The work is highly repetitive and physically demanding with limited pay growth. You'll spend hours on your feet doing the same motions, which causes wrist and shoulder strain. Automation may reduce some packing work, so job security can vary. Pay caps out quickly with few pathways to advance unless you move into supervision.

Where the jobs are

Regional jobs exist but are fewer. Work is on-site at factories or distribution centres, so remote work isn't an option.

Pay
