Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a diploma, advanced diploma or associate degree (ABS skill level 2). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

You'll spend a lot of time chasing down unpaid invoices and dealing with damaged equipment disputes. Customers often argue about pre-existing damage, late fees stack up slowly, and collection is tedious.

Where the jobs are

Equipment hire concentrates in major metro areas where construction and plant rental demand is highest. Practically speaking, most opportunities are near construction hubs and industrial precincts. Remote work is minimal: you need to be on-site for inspections and customer contact.
