The honest hard part
You'll carry emotional weight that doesn't switch off at 5pm. You'll witness poverty, neglect, and abuse regularly and have limited power to fix systemic problems. Mandatory reporting means you can't keep confidences, which damages trust with families. Many roles involve on-call crisis work.
Where the jobs are
Practically, jobs concentrate in larger cities and regional centres where child protection services and community health operate. Remote work is rare because home visits are essential. Government agencies and nonprofits like Anglicare, Berry Street, and Lifeline employ most workers, so follow their job boards by location.
