Is it steady

Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a diploma, advanced diploma or associate degree (ABS skill level 2). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

Commission-based income means lean months, especially when clients delay decisions or the market slows. You need financial literacy and ASIC licensing (including ongoing compliance training), which takes time to obtain. Regulatory complexity is real: one mistake in advice or documentation can trigger complaints to AFCA and damage your reputation fast.

Where the jobs are

The work clusters in major business districts and affluent suburbs where clients have assets to protect. Most roles are office-based in metro areas; remote work is limited because client relationships and negotiations benefit from face-to-face contact. Regional centres have fewer opportunities unless you go independent.

Pay

A$2,576 a week
