Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate II or III (ABS skill level 4). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

The work is repetitive data entry, and software may take over more of it over time. You'll spend most days typing the same information into systems, hunting for missing details, and chasing down errors. Pay growth is often limited, even with experience. If you're detail-focused but crave variety, this will wear you down.

Where the jobs are

Retail head offices and warehouses employ significant numbers. Practically speaking, regional areas have far fewer roles. Almost all work is office or warehouse-based; remote work is uncommon.
