Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a diploma, advanced diploma or associate degree (ABS skill level 2). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

You're also doing detailed compliance work where small mistakes can cause legal problems for the firm, so there's real pressure. Much of the work is repetitive data entry and spreadsheet checking, which can feel grinding.

Where the jobs are

In reality, these roles are almost entirely office-based in city CBDs and business districts. Remote work exists but is rare. Some regional towns have advisory practices, but job options there are very limited. Financial services concentration in major metros means that's where opportunities are.
