Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate IV or Certificate III with at least two years of on-the-job training (ABS skill level 3). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

The pay ceiling is real: pay growth is often limited unless you move into producer or line producer roles, which require different skills. You'll also hit constant deadline pressure with irregular hours (early calls, late wraps, weekend gigs are normal), and the work is genuinely repetitive admin despite the creative industry backdrop. One mistake on a call sheet or budget line can cost thousands.

Where the jobs are

Remote work is uncommon since coordinators need to be on-site managing crews and logistics. Web series and streaming work is growing but still concentrates in major metros.
