Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a diploma, advanced diploma or associate degree (ABS skill level 2). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

You're managing a public-facing operation with zero margin for safety errors, which means constant compliance paperwork and incident investigations. Pay tops out well below senior corporate roles, and automation of ticketing and scheduling systems is slowly shrinking the need for these positions.

Where the jobs are

Practically speaking, regional Australia has very few staffed stations, and remote work is not an option for this role.
