Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a bachelor degree or higher (ABS Skill Level 1). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

You're moving into a role where a single mistake in a submission or compliance gap can cost your employer hundreds of thousands in fines or product recalls. The learning curve is steep: you need to genuinely understand complex, constantly changing regulations across multiple bodies (TGA, ASIC, AHPRA). It's detail-heavy work with high stakes and limited room for error. Many career changers find the document-heavy nature and regulatory reading load exhausting.

Where the jobs are

Remote work is growing but rarer than in other admin fields. Regional options are limited unless you target local government or agricultural regulatory bodies.
