Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a bachelor degree or higher (ABS Skill Level 1). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

You'll need to master a maze of overlapping legislation (ESOS, National Code, AQF, state regs, TEQSA or ASQA rules) that changes regularly. The compliance knowledge burden is steep and ongoing. Pay also tends to cap out unless you move into management, and the work can feel repetitive: you're essentially checking the same boxes at different institutions.

Where the jobs are

Most roles are office-based with site visits to institutions, so remote work is limited. You'll find positions with TEQSA, ASQA, state education departments, and larger training organisations and universities.

Pay

A$2,524 a week
