Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a bachelor degree or higher (ABS Skill Level 1). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
Your success is measured entirely by numbers others set for you. Miss revenue targets and your job security disappears fast, regardless of market conditions. You'll work nights and weekends chasing quarterly deadlines, dealing with constant pressure to do more with less budget. Career changers often underestimate the emotional toll of firing underperformers and managing your own team's stress.
Where the jobs are
Practically speaking, mid-sized and larger companies in CBD areas dominate; remote-first positions exist but are less common than in pure marketing roles. Regional Australia has fewer opportunities unless you're willing to work for retailers or agricultural businesses.
