What this job is
A sex worker or escort provides sexual services or companionship to clients in exchange for payment, operating within the decriminalised or regulated frameworks that vary across Australian states and territories. Implement personal safety protocols including advising a trusted contact of client meetings and locations. Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate I or compulsory secondary education (ABS skill level 5). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
The real barrier is personal safety risk that doesn't disappear. Even with screening, boundaries, and safety tech, you're meeting strangers alone for intimate services. Violence, theft, and exploitation happen. You also carry stigma that affects future employment, housing, and relationships. Many states still have grey legal areas despite decriminalisation. Income is unpredictable and entirely dependent on you staying healthy and able to work.
