Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a bachelor degree or higher (ABS Skill Level 1). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
Wool and lamb prices swing wildly with global markets, so income is unpredictable. Lambing season means 24/7 work during peak weeks. Drought can wipe out your pasture and force expensive feed purchases. Most career changers underestimate the physical toll and isolation.
Where the jobs are
Practically speaking, viable sheep properties exist mainly in established pastoral zones rather than metro areas. Remote work does not apply.
