Can employers fill these jobs

Employers hiring for this occupation were generally able to find suitable applicants in 2025. Ratings are not the same everywhere. NSW and WA were rated in shortage. This measures how hard employers found it to fill jobs. It is not a count of jobs, and it does not say whether the occupation is growing.

Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate II or III (ABS skill level 4). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. The honest hard part

The work is physically and mentally demanding. You'll be on your feet in cold, wet conditions handling sharp tools and heavy equipment at high speed for eight-hour shifts. The emotional toll of regularly killing animals can wear on you, even when done humanely. Pay is modest and unlikely to rise much without moving into supervision.

Where the jobs are

Jobs concentrate in regional areas near livestock supply. Some work exists in metro areas but most facilities are rural. Remote work is not possible in this role.
