Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a diploma, advanced diploma or associate degree (ABS skill level 2). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

Mail volumes are shrinking as more people go digital, so you're managing a declining revenue base. You'll handle cash daily (robbery risk), deal with unhappy customers about lost parcels, and work split shifts covering early mornings and Saturdays. The job is repetitive compliance work.

Where the jobs are

Post offices exist in every Australian town, but most manager roles are in metropolitan areas where branch volumes justify full-time management. Regional and rural licensed post offices often have part-time or combined manager-operator roles. Jobs concentrate in capital cities and larger regional centres. Remote work is not an option.

Pay
