Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a bachelor degree or higher (ABS Skill Level 1). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

You're betting on weather and market timing. Crop failures from disease, pests or climate events can wipe out months of work and income with no safety net. Pay is typically modest and capped unless you own the nursery. Early starts, weekend work during peak seasons, and physical labour in hot, humid greenhouses are the daily reality.

Where the jobs are

Most positions are at physical nurseries and greenhouses, not remote work.
