Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a bachelor degree or higher (ABS Skill Level 1). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. The honest hard part
Income is unstable and often low. You'll piece together gigs, teaching, session work, and casual performances rather than get steady pay. Many musicians need a second job to pay bills. Competition is fierce, especially in cities. You might spend years building a reputation before earning decent money, and even then it depends on constant networking and being in the right place.
Where the jobs are
Regional Australia has fewer opportunities unless you're teaching or performing covers in pubs. Remote work is rare. You need to be where the gigs are, which usually means a capital city.
Pay
Published for ANZSCO unit group 2112, the wider group this job sits in, not for this job on its own.
This is the median for full-time employees who are not managers and are paid at the adult rate, before tax and salary sacrifice. It is a guide to what the work pays, not a wage rate.
