Requirements

The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate IV or Certificate III with at least two years of on-the-job training (ABS skill level 3). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.

The honest hard part

Your income is heavily commission-based, so your pay swings with market cycles. When property sales drop during economic downturns, your earnings can fall sharply. You'll also face long hours including weekends and evenings for open homes and client meetings, and the emotional toll of managing client expectations when properties don't sell quickly or at desired prices.

Where the jobs are

Smaller regional towns have fewer roles but less competition. The practical reality is that coastal and inner-city areas generate more transactions than remote regional Australia. Remote work is uncommon since you need to show properties in person.

Pay
