Requirements
The standard entry pathway requires a Certificate II or III (ABS skill level 4). Specific qualification requirements vary by employer and state. Some employers may accept equivalent experience. Check yourcareer.gov.au for available courses and dewr.gov.au/skills-reform/free-tafe for subsidised training options.
The honest hard part
The role involves repetitive scripts, constant monitoring of metrics like call time and customer satisfaction scores, and pressure to resolve issues quickly even when customers are frustrated or angry. Shift work including evenings and weekends is common.
Where the jobs are
Many Australian companies now use offshore or hybrid models, so local roles are becoming more selective. Most positions are in-office rather than remote, though this varies by employer.
